National Night Out is fast approaching. National Night Out, a unique crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 3, 2010. National Night Out involves citizens, law enforcement, civic groups and businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials in our community. Since 1984, "National Night Out- America’s Night Out Against Crime" has grown to involve over 34 million people from more than 10,000 communities. National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
You can celebrate with a variety of events and activities such as porch parties, cookouts, drug marches and neighborhood get-togethers. Tampa Police Department encourages our Neighborhood Watch groups and Associations to partner and host one event for several neighborhoods.
National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. The benefits our communities derive from National Night Out extend well beyond one night.
This year National Night Out is once again sponsored by Target. We have made contact with our local Target stores in Tampa and they are very excited to participate with our local events. They have volunteers and donations that will be distributed to our groups.
Tampa Police Department - District One will make every effort to ensure that police department representatives attend your National Night Out events, a large-scale event or an intimate front porch gathering of neighbors.
If your neighborhood would like to host a National Night Out event be sure to send your police department requests (motorcycle officers, TPD horse, etc.) by July 1, 2010. District One will work with each and every one of our dedicated Neighborhood Watch groups to make this year’s National Night Out a success.
