Sutter's Landing

Posted in: Boulevard Park
I've been a resident of midtown for a little less than a year now and have just become aware of Sutter's Landing and some plans to develop parts of it for various recreational uses. Can someone fill me in (no pun intended) on what the community's plans for this area have been in recent times? One specific concern I have is a planned use for a dog park (which I talked about briefly at the last BPNA meeting, and won't rehash here), but I'd like to know how usable the land is for various purposes.

For example, could some of it be used for a playground or soccer field? I know this is landfill and takes time for stuff to decompose, but I've heard that parts of it have been filled-in for almost 30 years.

Although there may be a highway ending-up right through there, it sounds like Sutter's Landing could be a great open area or park in an neighborhood with not a lot of open space.

Thanks.

Landfill

There are some big problems with the dump site. Ten years ago it was leaching all kinds of nasty stuff into the river and no one knows what is really in the the dump. Regulations were much different for most of the dumps' life than are now in place. The understanding at this time is no green anything that takes water for 20-30 years, maybe a nice tennis and basketball area... watering the area is a big no no and will cause even greater leaching, not just into the river but into the neighborhoods south of it. There is alot of unknowns regarding the entire area and most people don't want to touch it. If bad things are found on the site it could have a negative impact on the neighborhoods in midtown and especially property values. Proceed with caution.

is there any way i can get a hold of the person or orginization that owns that property? does anyone have any info on that? that would be awsome
