Historic Designation

Posted in: Washington Park East
I attended the meeting last night (August 11th) that provided information on how a neighborhood becomes a local historic district. I found it very informative and would like to thank the organizers. I see that some people were not for it and voiced their opinions - while some of us are still trying to obtain the facts. It was interesting that it appeared to me that some people who came and opposed it, didn't seem to have all of the facts - (while others did.) I would be interested to hear some of the opinions of neighbors here in this discussion area - on everyone's thoughts on the matter. Actually, more than opinions - I am interested in more facts too.
Thanks,
A neighbor who is leaning toward supporting the Historic District Designation
No facts, but an opinion

I didn't attend this session but I did attend the first one. I applaud the organizers for having an opinion and soliciting the opinions of neighbors. Brava! (or whatever the feminine plural is - I've misplaced my Italian dictionary.)
However, I am not in favor of historic designation. I think we have adequate measures in place to prevent egregious violations of design taste.
I hope it was reinforced at this meeting that it would take the concurrence of a substantial number of WPEers to get this designation approved.
Having said that, I hope those wishing to pop their tops have the good taste to prevent more eyesores in our neighborhood.
but what's the answer

what are the guidelines that you refer to? there are none. any decent neighborhood has covenants and restrictions..since about the 40's.
we at e.wash pk have nothing. there are alot of speculators buying up properties here and doing the pop top thing. they don't care about how it looks or what it does to your property.or your property value. i think we need to protect our investments ourselves cause..there simply is no one else who will.its us homeowners against the people with money who want to make more of it in our neighborhood. .
