A Jail in our Neighborhoods?

I was just wondering if anyone in West Washington Park has any sense of outrage over Kathleen MacKenzie welcoming the new jail to the Gates Rubber plant? She says, according to the Denver Post, that she is ''desperate'' to have some municipal investment in her district.

Also, what do you think of Tim Dunn, the neighborhood association president, who states in the same article, ''I'm in favor of a new jail in that location.'' Does he speak for everyone in West Wash Park? Is there no sense of outrage here from the residents?

The Baker neighborhood fought long and hard to make sure the jail would not end up in the Sears Outlet area. We managed to keep it out, but now it's rearing its ugly head again.

Additionally, look how much money and hard work that has been put into the Broadway corridor to improve it. Why not continue the trend? I know many in Baker were hoping for possibly more retail, restaurants, lofts and/or offices to go into that location. With it being right next to the light rail station, it would be an easy draw. Not to mention how many more jobs that kind of development would create versus a jail.

I'm looking for a sense of what the West Wash Park residents are feeling. If you're as outraged as many of us are in Baker, then let's not see if we can join forces in fighting the jail in the Gates Rubber area.
