I never said Interlocken was not in favor of the Parkway. Please see my other posts on the subject. Broomfield is one of the major cities supporting the Parkway. What I am challenging is your linkage between the city/county and the Parkway. Mr. Long may have stated that it would be easier for Interlocken to work with one county. However, working with just one county is not the case. You stated that you understand there are other governmental entities involved which is the case. Lafayette is in Boulder County and Boulder County is a part of the IGA among Broomfield, Lafayette, Louisville, and the County. Weld County is also involved. The fact of the matter is that the Parkway is in no way linked to the city/county. This is one of the attempts at linkages that CVELG and you allege because of your preconceived notions. You try to make an issue about Interlocken''s contribution of funds to the Northwest Parkway Highway Authority. Why? Because you do not want to admit that your preconceived notions were wrong. Interlocken has every right to contribute funds for transportation systems. This does not make it unethical or sinister. You attempts at making these linkages is wrong. You said that I "missed the boat." It seems to me that your boat sank with you aboard. The murky waters of your argument do not bode well for any rescue missions.

You questioned what the Boulder County Commissioners may think about the Parkway. You should call them and find out. Boulder County is a party to the IGA with Broomfield, Lafayette, and Louisville. As I recall from newspaper articles, the County was very interested in the open space considerations in the IGA.

Thank you both for your responses. Certainly the apathy is prevalent and fewer people participate in their local government today than ever before. Our lives are SO FULL. I certainly know that my participation in this whole thing has taken it's toll on my life.

To have to fight to maintain integrety in our local government seems ironic. These council members are OF us, for crying out loud. I grew up in a town of 800 people. The town leaders wouldn't think to lie to or manipulate their public ... their public lived next door. And all members of the community cared for the well being of others. At least that's the way I remember it, and so I went out into the world with a very trusting attitude.

Over the years we have seen that politicians in general are with out morals or ethics. And we have seen that we (as a whole) accept this. We even expect their deceipt. It seems that elections are always the choosing of the lesser of two evils.

I have a gut feeling for how we ended up in this place. But it is becoming increasingly more important to me that we turn this condition around.

I believe that the ONLY way we can have integrity in our local government is to have a majority of the public insisting on that integrity. The public needs to understand the details of issues and participate in decision making processes. And they need to care enough to spend their time and energy on these things. But how to get that info out ... how to inspire the concern, the participation ... these are much more dificult questions.
