Downriver Poets & Playwrights have had a great year. Our new leader, Mono D'Angelo, has proved himself to be a very capable replacement for our former leader, Gwen Funston, who moved to Kansas this summer.

Under Mono's leadership our group sponsored and held the Fall Meeting of the Poetry Society of Michigan at the Wayne County Community College. It was an exciting day of poetry. After a morning session of open reading by the membership, we held our business meeting followed by a delicious lunch. The afternoon session was filled with great performing poets. We had a dancing poet and a troup of poets that incorporated poetry with drama. Several other special poets performed their work also. The day didn't end there. We had a "poetry crawl" to several local coffee houses after an open reading at the Downriver Council of the Arts building next to the college.

Our Christmas dinner was held at the First United Methodist Church of Wyandotte, catered by several people from that church. They have the best food!

Come join us at regular first and third Tuesday meetings at the Wyandotte City Hall located downtown at 3131 Biddle Ave. at 7pm.
