Goals and the Town Budget

The Town Council is opening the process of budget creation to input from the
citizens as indicated in the portion of the News Release that follows (see
Add-a-Page for the complete release. TOWN ENCOURAGES CITIZEN
INVOLVEMENT IN GOAL SETTING The Town of Parker hoseted one meeting
on July 12 and will be hosting a second meeting July 26 at 6:30 p.m. for
citizens to meet with the Town Council to discuss goals and priorities in
preparation for the 2000-2001 budget. At the July 12 meeting the results of the
recent citizen survey was discussed and was used to help set Town-wide
goals for the coming years. The meeting on July 26 will focus on establishing
and prioritizing specific strategies to achieve the Town-wide goals. The
meetings are held in the Parker Town Council Chambers at 20120 E.
Mainstreet. Those planning to attend are encouraged to RSVP to Elise at
303-841-0353 so that the Town can plan for the appropriate number of
attendees. For more information, call 303-841-0353. The Citizen Survey
results were included in the goals being considered (see the two most recent
issues of Talk of the Tow. These included: 1. Slow Down Residential Growth,
2. Improve Traffic Flow, Reduce Traffic Volume and Slow Speeds in
Residential Areas, 3. Mainain Streets 4. Maintain Public Safety, 5. Parks and
Recreation, Expand and Maintain Trails, Preserve Open Space and Historic
Rescources ands develop more ball fields, and 6.Improve Citizen Involvement
in Government. To these were added Goals from Council''s retreat in January;
1. Develop a Comprehecnsive Annexation/Land Use Strategy and 2. a
financial Master Plan. And to those a number of others were added from the
floor by citizens. These were: Make growth pay its own way,Account for
external growth impacts, Growth limitation, Protect downtown area, Improve
traffic flow, Focus on Families, Include all neighborhoods, Involve county
(Parker) residents, GID for major roads, Use other good models (cities,
programs, etc,Identity of Parker - youth and family activities, parades, events,
Outdoor events center, amphitheater, Open space and vistas-preserve,
External perception of Town. My questions to you are, "Do you have other
goals to suggest?"and, "What is your suggestions for the priorities of the
