February 2009

Message from the President

As we witness change occur in our national politics, changes will occur in our own current DRA Officer status. I regret that I cannot serve a second term as your president and I encourage any DRA member that is inspired to lead our organization consider serving either on our Board or as President. Serving as your president is truly a rewarding and educational experience. My last two years have been filled with many opportunities to meet and interact with a variety of political officials, other local neighborhood associations and of course, the warm and wonderful members of the DRA.

I have an opportunity to pursue a venture that will occupy much of my free time (in addition to my fulltime job and my part-time job) and I know I will not have the time needed to dedicate to the DRA. Certainly, I would serve again as President, should the opportunity come about again, but for now, I need to dedicate my efforts elsewhere.

Rose Bonny is serving as the Chair of the Nomination Committee. If you are interested in serving or have a suggestion to nominate another DRA member, please contact her at roseoftexas@satx.rr.com.

It's Rodeo time in San Antonio! I hope you enjoyed the cattle drive down Houston Street at the Houston Street Fair and support local scholarships that benefit our students as a direct result of funds raised through the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

We have a special treat for our February meeting. Come out and meet Fred Preston and be one of the first in the city to get an autographed copy of his new book, Historic Doors of San Antonio. He will be out and about in the media soon promoting his book, but we will be one of the first groups to share in his excitement. This is an incredible book of his photography of famous, familiar and fabulous doors in and around downtown and Monte Vista. Our meeting will be at 6 PM, Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at The Cool Caf?© (in the Havana Hotel) 123 Auditorium Circle. Bring your cash or checks and support Fred!
