 SUPER NEIGHBORHOOD 40 MEETING

All members of our community are invited to participate in the Super Neighborhood 40 meeting that will be held on JULY 8, 2010 at the HPD Hiram Clarke Storefront. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. The focus of the organization is to identify opportunities and challenges that should be addressed in the Hiram Clarke/South Post Oak area.

COMMUNITY CLEAN UP

The City of Houston Community Clean Up in our area was held on JUNE 26, 2010. Special sites were set up to collect hazardous chemicals and tires that should not be disposed during weekly trash or during monthly heavy trash collection. Items such as motor oil, paint, pesticides were included in the clean up. Several nooks within our community were targeted and cleared of heavy waste that had been dumped by persons who either do not live here or who do not care about the condition of the neighborhood. We are asking all citizens of Dumbarton Oaks to remain watchful and quickly report all illegal dumping to the city’s 311 helpline. If it is possible to get a license plate number for the vehicle that is being used to commit the crime, please do so. Failure to do so results in loss of property value for all of us.

NEW PRINCIPALS AT SEVERAL AREA SCHOOLS

The Houston Independent School District has elected to move a number of school administrators within the district. At least two schools in our area will be affected. Dr. Aubrey Todd, will not be returning to Madison High School and many of the staff members at Dowling Middle School have been given notice that they will not be returning to the campus in the fall of 2010. Additionally, several of the elementary schools will have new leaders when the school bell rings in the 2010-2011 school year.

CIVIC CLUB VOTES TO APPLY FOR YARD PARKING ORDINANCE

One of the many agenda items discussed during the June 12, 2010 Civic Club Meeting was residents who park on the front and/ or side yard of their homes. This gives visitors to our community a very bad impression. It also results in lower property values for all. Karen Auclair, from Neighborhood Protection spoke about the procedure for insuring that the city will support the civic club’s effort to rid our area of this visual and economic assault. Pictures were available for all to view. Following the presentation of this information the members present voted to proceed with plans to apply for the inclusion in the City of Houston Parking Ordinance which bans residents from parking on the yard. We anticipate submitting the application very soon.

NEIGHBORHOOD PROTECTION INSPECTOR MOVED

The members of the Dumbarton Oaks Civic Club would like to salute Ms Karen Auclair for doing an outstanding job as the Neighborhood Protection Inspector for zip code 77045. Auclair accepted the position in November of 2009 and has worked diligently to assist with the clean up of an area that had gone without an assigned inspector for nearly four years. We are saddened to report that Ms Auclair was moved to another department within the city on June 21, 2010. While we wish her well in the new position, the citizen of zip code 77045 must hold the city accountable for replacing her with a person who will work tirelessly to assist us in bring our community to standards. This area has been ignored for far too long!!!

HPD Hiram Clarke Storefront

Sgt. Timothy Sutton of the Houston Police Department – Hiram Clarke Storefront spoke to the members of the civic organization on June 12, 2010. He provided us with lots of valuable information about crime in the area. Sgt. Sutton also shared information with us about (SCAN) a program through HPD that provides citizens with updates via email on criminal activity in their particular zip code. We would like to acknowledge the outstanding job that is being done by the staff assigned to the storefront in assisting area civic organization in raising the neighborhood standards.
