The Milo-Grogan neighborhood was built at the beggining of the century. It was originally an part of a larger Italian neighborhood.
The neighborhood contains a mix of housing types designed for working class people. The houses are mostly constructed of wood with many apartment buildings and public buildings made of brick. Some of the streets maintain the trees that provided shade to both a homes front yard and to the street. If the streets were made of coblestone at one point, they no longer remain.
It is the goal of the Milo-Grogan (East 5th Avenue) Commission to regain some of the former beauty the neighborhood once held. To do this, the commission will be working to develop a plan for the Milo-Grogan nieghborhood that will encourage forward development while protecting the existing housing within the neighborhood. The commission believes that a redeveloped area is necessary to improve the quality of life for area residents but not at the expense of driving people from thier homes.
