Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Seminar for Condominium and Homeowner Associations in the Tampa Bay Area

Ruth Eckerd Hall

1111 McMullen Booth Road

Clearwater, FL 33759

Friday, May 27, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

KW Property Management and Consulting, in conjunction with Pinellas County Communications, the Hillsborough County Office of Neighborhood Relations, Gambrell Sturges, Allied Barton, United Fire and Bay Area DKI, will be hosting a Disaster Preparedness and Recovery seminar for Condominium and Homeowner associations throughout Tampa bay.

Len Ciecieznski, Public Information Specialist with the Pinellas County Communications Department, will be providing a thorough overview of hurricanes and tropical storms including wind velocity concerns, storm surge levels and evacuation zones, as well as hurricane myths.

Wanda Sloan, Coordinator for the Hillsborough County Office of Neighborhood Relations, will be covering disaster planning for neighborhoods, including a thorough overview of who is responsible for what during a disaster, the eighteen emergency support functions utilized in Hillsborough county, and the Continuity of Operations Plan.

After the presentations by Pinellas and Hillsborough counties the attendees will break into groups to brain storm on ways to create, or improve upon, a disaster recovery plan for their association. These groups will be designated as (1) hi-rise buildings, (2) mid-rise and condominiums, (3) homeowner associations (single family homes), and (4) mobile home communities.

A representative from KW Property Management, Gambrell Sturges, Allied Barton, United Fire, and Bay Area DKI will work with the breakout groups to help them incorporate into a disaster preparedness and recovery plan the following emergency protocols:

  • Preparation for the occurrence of a natural disaster
  • Communication within the community and the county
  • Evacuation options
  • Defining roles and responsibilities
  • Insurance
  • Security
  • Damage Assessment Procedures
  • Vendor Management - granting access, facilitating service, defining service in advance

We look forward to seeing you at this great event, and we encourage you to bring a copy of your current association disaster preparedness plan to the seminar.  If you have any questions or need assistance in registering please contact us at your earliest convenience.
