On August 30, 2001, Sidney Pope, co-founder of the East Sacramento Improvement Association, passed away at the age of 89. Sidney was a tireless and enthusiastic advocate for the preservation of East Sacramento. She guided the Association from its infancy when it was the only neighborhood association in Sacramento for over 30 years as President, Treasurer, and Board member. There wasn?’t a Planning Commission or City Council meeting that she didn?’t attend when it involved East Sacramento. Mayors, City Managers, Planning Commissioners, and City Councilpersons have said that because of her efforts East Sacramento does not look like Watt Ave. We will miss her.
