Eagle Eyes (Forest Hills Grid 18)

April 2012

Did you see this article in The Tampa Tribune on March 14th? http://www2.tbo.com/news/northeast/2012/mar/14/neopeno1-university-square-area-ready-for-its-own--ar-368318/

The city is beginning with University Square and Terrace Park communities to gather information for re-shaping some of the older communities in Tampa which have been somewhat neglected over the years, based on what the areas need and what the residents want. It will be several years before Forest Hills begins this process, but the time for us to begin organizing for this project is NOW. This will probably be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to input our visions for our community, so get to know your neighbors - - that’s what those new sidewalks are for! - - and let’s get some input going on . . . the sooner the better.

We are

Our next NHW meeting will be Thursday, April 26th. Yes, we have added a 4th meeting per year. We will now meet quarterly -- the last Thursday in January, April, July and October (October meetings may be subject to change depending on how Halloween falls in a particular year). Offers from anyone who would like to contribute toward refreshments are gratefully accepted; email EagleEyeGrid18@YAHOO to work something out.

The accumulation of litter on the gateway streets for our neighborhood is still an issue. It is everyone’s responsibility to help keep our neighborhood litter-free. It is the responsibility of each individual homeowner to keep the area between your property line and the street clean of weeds and debris. . . even if it is out of your line of sight because of a privacy fence. High weeds/grass collect litter and hold it in place, inviting people to throw more litter out. A cluttered neighborhood attracts the criminal element much more-so that a neat/clean neighborhood. Not saying that we all need lawns that look like a “Better Homes and Gardens” project – just neat and an un-cluttered presentation.

Speeding within the grid has become a big issue. We hate to say it, but some of the guilty parties are residents (you know who you are). Please slow down . . . the speed limit on a residential street is 25 mph.

still having problems with the speeding traffic around the perimeter of the schools. We’ll take any suggestions we can get to affect a solution to this problem – let’s not wait until someone’s child gets injured. Having to drive our children to school in order to keep them safe just adds to the traffic backlog.

As always . . . when you hear or see something of a suspicious nature, don’t hesitate to call the TPD non-emergency number (231-6130). Better to follow your instinct and have it be nothing, than to not call for TPD to investigate and find out a burglary or vandalism has occurred. And the police don’t mind being called for a false alarm; they’d rather prevent a problem than have someone violated and/or to fill out a long report on some criminal act that could have been prevented.

HAPPY EASTER!!!!

See you on the sidewalk . . . . . . . . . . . .
