There have been a large number of auto burglaries and thefts recently involving vehicles which were not locked (see previous discussion posted). TPD reports that many auto thieves report bypassing any vehicle that utilizes a steering wheel locking device - also known as The Club - when looking for a vehicle to steal. I suspect the main reason for this is the additional time it would take to bypass The Club . . . for these guys time is of the essence.
If you ever scrutinize the packaging of The Club, you'll see that the manufacturer offers a deductable to you should your vehicle ever be stolen when The Club is properly utilized at the time of theft. The amount paid out varies depending upon which version of The Club you are using, but at the very least your initial price of purchase would be returned to you. So to utilize The Club, you're effectively out nothing. You need only save the receipt and the packaging bar code in order to take advantage. And hopeully you'll never need to, because the thieves will do as Dionne Warwick used to sing: "Walk On By" .
What I can't quite figure out is why, in this day and age plus after repeated warnings, people continue to leave their cars unlocked. These guys walk around looking into vehicles and checking the door handles. Often when busted they'll tell you that if the vehicle door was locked they just moved on. Locking is really an easy preventative.
