The free trees will be distributed on a first-come first served basis; limit 3 trees per family. Families must register when picking up trees. They will also get planting instructions. The trees must be planted in a sunny location within 24-48 hours after pick up.
The free fruit trees are provided through a TreePeople neighborhood nutrition improvement program. TreePeople purchases approximately 3,000 trees each year (apples, plums, peaches, apricots, figs and nectarines), then prunes and ?“bags?” them in partnership with volunteers from food banks and community centers, churches and synagogues that work in underserved areas of Los Angeles. Planting trees also helps improve air quality, provides shade to reduce energy use, and enhances property values.
Distribution of the trees is facilitated by Earth Systems Science, Inc. (a California non-profit providing community-based education for urban families and sustainable communities) in cooperation with Wat Thai Los Angeles.
