For those of you who were asking...
The meeting started with a lengthy discussion about security and the recent burglaries, as well as the armed robbery of a woman. A representative from the sheriff's department discussed details of the instances and gave recommendations to be safe.
Someone suggested that we hire security personnel to patrol the area, but the board indicated they had checked into it and there was too much liability involved. They reviewed how they are using off-duty officers to patrol the area and other steps they are taking to help protect the residents. They emphasized the importance of using security alarms if you have them installed.
Several individuals raised concerns regarding the financial report. A few items were reviewed in detail, but some people indicated that they would like more information. The board invited them to come to the next board meeting.
It was decided that there may be a need for greater communication efforts and a communications committee was formed. I actually volunteered to assist on this committee along with several other individuals. We will be meeting soon and presenting our recommendations at the next board meeting.
