Eastside Neighborhood Steering Committee Meeting Notes

November 14, 2002

A presentation was made by Barbara Hunt of Orange County Human Relations.
Barbara will contact the core steering committee members individually regarding issues they may have in how the way the neighborhood association currently functions. She will present a workshop for the Eastside Steering Committee on January 9,2003.

Discussion ensued regarding the annual December 12th Holiday Potluck and the date of that event. The discussion touched on the following issues: that Eastside meets on the second Thursday of every month and has done so for the last 20 years or so; the promotion of this set meeting date, and that there is separation of church and state in the United States. One of the members expressed that it would be a hardship for some of the residents to attend as they would be attending church on that date from 6pm to 9pm in celebration of the Virgin of Guadalupe's Birth. This person stated she was speaking for 20 or so of our "long time members.

Annual Holiday Potluck will be Thursday December 12, 2002 from 6:30 to 9:00pm.
December Chairperson Martha Celestino, will be contacting people regarding food dishes people will be bringing. We look forward to see all of you there to help celebrate our accomplishments of 2002.

Neighborhood News-

Code Preservation has walked the North/South streets of the neighborhood with the team of 4 members. Recently their team was cut in half, and the remaining two members are revisiting the addresses they had issued warning notices to. They are checking on the status of the corrections. By the beginning of the New Year, they should be on the East/West streets. They are looking specifically for trashcan visibility from the public right-of-way, exterior painting needs, lack of maintained landscape - especially parkways, and Christmas icicles lights. (All Holiday icicle lights must be removed from the dwelling no later than 45 days after the Holiday- or by February 8th, 2003)

Selica Diaz was elected as Vice-Chairperson for Weed and Seed Site II, and is currently serving as an alternate Federal Empowerment Zone 2 Resident Representative on the sustainability committee.
