Eastside Neighborhood Notes
March 2002
Bruce Dunham, Victor Madrigal, and Estella Rodarte of Residential Code Preservation were the guest speakers at our February meeting. Our question and answer session addressed issues regarding front yard fences, unpermitted improvements, the current plan for the city regarding illegal fence replacement, and why there are 3 Code Preservation Officers going through out the City Neighborhood by Neighborhood. Over a year ago the Com-Link board requested from the Santa Ana City Council a proposal for 3 more Code Preservation Officers to supplement the existing staff. Their sole responsibilities are going through out the city block by block looking at property maintenance, front yard maintenance, and evidence of obvious illegal activities.
Things they will cite are:
Lack of lawn maintenance or parkway maintenance
Roof repair needed, or being performed without permit
Window replacement without permit, broken window pane replacement needed
Fence erection without permit
Auto repair in a residential area
Parking on front lawns or across public right of ways-i.e. sidewalks, bike paths
Illegal storage of personal possessions or rubbish accumulations in front yards
Trash cans visible from the public right of way
Christmas lights still on display-they must be down within 30 days of the holiday
Stucco repair needed
