Sierra Madre tragedy

Posted in: El Dorado

I am writing to address a comment that a Sierra Madre resident made in a TV interview in regards to the tragic event on Sierra Madre April 23, 2009.

I believe the resident said that this incident shows that our neighborhood has gone to pot. He further said he plans to move.

I believe that this murder has nothing to do with our neighborhood. Murders occur all over the USA and the world in places deemed prestigious and or "posh".......  Olmos Park, Monte Vista, Palm Beach, Boca Raton and many more.

We must also be positive and look at the little jewel of our neighborhood, El Dorado School. I have the pleasure and honor to be at that school several times a week. The children there are examples of the homes from which they are raised....and they are lovely, well-behaved children. It is clear they come from traditional, loving homes and parents who value education. They are sent to school with good attitudes and are generally ready to learn when they arrive there. I have taught school in 5 different states over the last 5 decades, and have seen it ALL and I can assure you I am proud that that school is in my neighborhood.

I would encourage the gentleman on Sierra Madre to go visit the school and get to know the children and the teachers there.  I think he will see that this neighborhood has not gone to pot.

El Dorado needs some fixing up, that's for sure.....but it is the cosmetics that need to be addressed....the pond, some of the yards, and many of the surrounding fences.
