Swim Club General Meeting Minutes

A general meeting of the Eldwick Swim & Tennis Club was held on March 18, 2002

Some of the items discussed at the meeting were as follows.

Thanks was given to all the people who helped out at the pool last season. Their help contributed to a very successful season at Eldwick last summer. See Swim Club Volunteers.

The 2001 season ended with a $3,045 balance in the operations budget and $1,450 credit with APS going into the 2002 season. The credit was due to hours charged but not worked during the 2001 season.

The balance from the 2001 Special Assessment was only $375. However, the pool house and shed roofs were replaced at the end of the season. This expense was not forecasted at the beginning of the season. The $375 was placed into Capital Reserve.

Significant fund raisers during the 2001 season included:

  • ice cream - $1,000
  • extended pool season - $465
  • 50/50 raffle - $560
  • tennis court rental - $435
  • golf tournament - $650 - Thanks to Enrique Pumar for this great idea!


  • For the 2002 season:
  • dues will remain at $400

  • no special assessments

  • weekend pool hours extended to 8 PM


  • There was a discussion of activities for the summer including:
  • pot luck dinners

  • raft nights

  • Friday and Sunday evening volleyball

  • 2nd annual golf tournament on the afternoon of June 29


  • A suggestion was made to organize water polo for the kids.

    The membership was reminded that Eldwick is an all-volunteer organization and that there are many ways that everyone can help out (see attachment for ideas).

    In preparation for the opening of the pool, there will be a general clean-up day on Sunday, April 14, from 12-3. The rain date is Saturday, May 11, from 12-3. Look for an email from Shari Director.

    Mike Mendley discussed the Eldwick Community web page. The address of the web page is www.neighborhoodlink.com/potomac/eldwick.

    There was a discussion about how much it would cost to resurface the tennis courts and how to raise the money. Barton Groh is researching the costs to eliminate the bamboo and perform the necessary renovations. One suggestion for raising money was to align the tennis courts with a pro. The pro would cover the cost of resurfacing the courts in exchange for being provided with court time for lessons.

    A suggestion was made to begin setting aside money for chair replacement.

    There was a discussion of various methods of advertising the pool and increasing the number of members. Shari Director offered to work on putting together a list of houses turning over in the neighborhood.
