Elvira Neighborhood Association Meeting 2/17/14

Call to Order: President David Densmore called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Introductions were made around the table
TPD Report: There was only one incident of graffiti reported in the district. The officer urged everyone If you see graffiti call it in. Speeding around Santa Clara School is a big issue and residents asked if the speed van could have a turn there.
Treasurers Report: Treasurer Mikki Niemi reported $1620.21 in ENA bank account Motion to accept the treasurer's report made by Rachel Tortosa, and Oscar Tortosa seconded. Motion was passed by all present.
Old Business:
A) Flyers were delivered by hand around the neighborhood. We did see three new residents at this month's meeting. Posting info on guest speakers was suggested.
B) The idea of T-shirts identifying us as Elvira Neighborhood members when doing various activities in the neighborhood was brought up again. Dave said he will check into the cost.
C) Items from the flyer were discussed. A park is needed in the neighborhood; we need to contact the school district & county to see if the schools can be opened for use. The Hope Church ball field is a possible area to use as a park.
D) More speed bumps are needed around the school and more lights are needed throughout the neighborhood.
New Business:
A) Goals for this year were discussed. Various ideas such as more guest speakers, Thanksgiving baskets, and bicycle give away. Night Out Against Crime should have the door better manned to have a more compressive list of who attends.
B) A discussion was held on who we'd like as guest speakers this year. Various suggestions for guest speakers were made, such as Animal Control, Wildcat Dumping, Pima Co and City representatives and the Pima Council on Ageing.
Call to the Audience:
A) Hosting neighborhood pot luck block parties so neighbors can get to know one was suggested.
B) A dialogue of how to get teens and young residents more involved in neighborhood activities was held. Ideas such as a concert and letters of recommendation for assisting with activities were some of the suggestions made.
President's report: Dave suggested scheduling a clean-up for the walking path was also discussed. He will contact the City for bags and verifying pickup procedures.
Adjournment: Motion to adjourn was made by Oscar Tortosa seconded by Rachel Tortosa. Motion was passed by all present. Meeting was adjourned at 8:31 p.m.
