You may not be a fan of email, but it,at least, provides us with an opportunity to communicate. I'm sorry you think me rude. I am trying to communicate what may or may not be the feelings of some residents of our community. My neighbor, unfortunately, will not be serving as my representative as he was not elected. On what basis are people elected? Popularity? Possibly that is a good basis, possibly not. As for getting involved, if meeting times and places and agendas are made public, then perhaps more people will get involved.

Homeowners meeting

Micki -

While I agree that it would be helpful if the individuals running for the open board seats were known in advance with enough time so that their names could be communicated to the residents at the time the notice of the meeting is mailed to each resident, in reality what has occured is that we've had a difficult time getting people to run for the board seats, and usually the board nominees aren't known until after the required deadline when the notice of the meeting has to be mailed. Also, because we want to be open as possible, we always allow for floor nominations, so even if the notice of the meeting listed one or more residents who were running for the open board seats, it wouldn't necessarily be a complete list because someone might decide to be nominated at the meeting itself.

The notice of the meeting also listed all of the business to be conducted at the meeting (e.g. this year the board nominees and the reduction of the required quorom), so each resident was made aware of what was to be voted on before the meeting took place.

I think you can also reasonably assume that the residents who gave their proxies to other residents, or to the chairman of the meeting (e.g. the board president) were comfortable giving that individual the power to vote on their behalf. Please also keep in mind that without those proxies, we would not have been able to conduct any business at the meeting due to a lack of quorom. That is one reason I was in favor of reducing the required quorom down to 25%.

Until such time as we have many more residents running for the board seats, I would not be in favor of term limits. Unlike national political campaigns, in which big $$$ are generally required to run for office, any resident can run for the board at no cost.

Regards
