The EMHA areas described below were treated with herbicides following a mowing earlier in the summer. The primary weed of concern in the larger fields is the Canada Thistle. Due to its root system, the most effective means of control has been shown to be a combination of mowing and spraying. Another application of herbicides is planned for next year.
1. Armadillo Trail bend and end of S. Grizzly Way area: between the fence ad Armadillo Tr; approximately 1.2 acres with knapweed and Canda Thistle.
2. Ball Field area: located on Prairie Dog Way, areas west and north of the maintained ball diamond; approximately 2acres with Canada and Musk Thistle. A portion of the area is wet from the seasonal drainage from the above meadow.
3. West side Entrance Sign area: located at the corner of Hwy 73 and Citation Tr; approximately 0.2 acres with knapweed, Canada and Musk Thistle.
4. Gray Fox Drive near Ponds AREA: located a the north end of Gray Fox to the east of the ponds; approximately 2.9 areas with Canada and Musk Thistle.
5. War Admiral / Whirlaway / Peace Chance Tr: located on the west side of Evergreen Meadows, EMHA property lies within the meadow surrounded by individual residential lots. The meadow is wet in areas. Approximately 8.3 acres with Canada Thistle.
Additional areas worked on included the Fire District property at the corner of Malamute and Hwy 73 and the School District property on Gray Fox.
The cost of mowing and spraying totaled approximately $3,647 on the EMHA property. The benefits of this effort to control weeds on EMHA property will be greatly increased if individual property owners will join in the effort gain control of the weeds that continue to spread in our community. That's why next year we will do more to encourage those owners with significant weed infestation do something about this problem.
