City Code Enforcement General Information:

There are eight Code Enforcement Officers providing enforcement within the city limits of Colorado Springs who can be reached at 719.444.7891 for information or reporting violations. An anonymous complaint can be filed by phone Mon-Fri, 7 AM to 5 PM at 444.7891. Some general City Code Enforcement items include:
?• Rec/Utility Vehicle and Oversized Vehicle parking or Storage ?– All recreational vehicles, utility trailers, boats and trailers, etc. must be parked/stored in the rear yard whenever possible. If the back is not accessible, they must be at least ten feet back from the inside of the sidewalk or city right of way when parked/stored in the side or front yard. Vehicles over 10,001 pounds gross vehicle weight rating can not be parked or stored in any zone except C-6, M-1, or M-2. This includes dump trucks, semis, most tow trucks, ?“Snap On Tool?” trucks, etc.
?• Unlicensed/Inoperable Vehicles ?– All vehicles on private property must have a current license plate and be operable or removed from the property or stored within an enclosed building. The one exception is an operable antique (25 years or older) which does not have to be licensed and may be stored anywhere on the property. A person may have one ?“Collector?” or ?“Parts?” vehicle that is not operable, but it must be screened from view from any adjacent street, alley, or neighboring property. Unlicensed/Inoperable/Abandoned vehicles in street report at 444.7706.
?• Garage (yard, etc) Sale and other ?“Temporary?” Signs ?– These signs may be placed on private property only. It is not permissible to place them on light poles, utility boxes, stop signs, street signs, or any City Property, including the right of way. If you do put these signs up in any of these areas, at least remove them after the event as a courtesy and to clean up the neighborhood. Garage Sales are also restricted to two a year and for not more than two consecutive days. Call 385.5982 with complaints.
?• Right of ways obstructions ?– Report at 385.5942. Owners/occupants are required to trim back shrubs, trees, flowers and bushes that obstruct intersections (stop signs and lines of sight, and street signs), and/or rights of ways. If non-compliant, it is turned over for contract abatement at owner?’s expense. If the vegetation is within City or public right of way, the complaint is referred to the Forestry Division of the Parks and Recreation Department.
?• Weed Control ?– The weed code states that no weeds/grass can be over nine inches (9?“) tall and growing within fifty-five feet (55?’) of a building, creating a fire hazard; or along sidewalks, curbs, or roadways to obstruct pedestrian traffic, on corners causing a traffic hazard or are blocking the flow of water (drainage ditches). Owners/occupants notified, and if not abated, a contractor is scheduled to do the work and the owner is billed. Included in this is the ?“Noxious Weed Ordinance?”. The State has declared five weeds as ?“noxious?” and a great threat to the agriculture and livestock industry ?– Diffuse, Spotted and Russian Knapweed; Leafy Spurge; and Canada Thistle.
?• Noise and Light Intrusion ?– Certain levels of decibels cannot be exceeded and can be reported at 444.7000 at any time. All exterior lighting must be arranged to reflect away from any adjoining premises and any public right of way, and shall be shielded to contain all direct rays on the site.
?• Graffiti ?– can be reported to Graffiti Helpline at 634.5713.
