Fall Creek Neighbors

This year seems to be unusually green, is it because of all the blooming trees/plants? I don't remember it being like this last year. Does anyone who has lived here a long time have any comment?  I thought it would go away  since all the fountains are running. I hope it does.

You're correct, the lake was clear last year.  It has been clear since the neighbors who fertilized very heavily moved several years ago.  This green sludge does not seem to have much body to it--no leaves, branches, etc.  It disperses fairly quickly, but then a new patch washes in.  It is not like a few years ago when the bottom weeds died, floated to the top, and made the lake look like a dirty tarp with a few holes in it.  I noticed a few oil patches several days ago so maybe it is fertilizer again.

I've lived here about 4 years, and we get the algae every year. I live at the north end of the lake and the wind seems to blow it all up here so people on most of the lake may not noice it as much. The rain tends to get rid of it for a few days. But sometimes we'll have a mat of it for over a month. I do agree that the cause is probably related to fertilizer, its just food to the algae.

Green slime is here every year. However I do suspect that instead of fertilizer might I suggest that it is our yard maintainence allowing grass cutting to get into the pond?  It really is good for the fish however and it does clear up by fall.
