Code Compliance

After the HDRC meeting (18 July) Lincoln Avant with Diego Bernal's office told the President of Five Points Owner's Association, Anya Davis, and the Chairman of Committees, Dr. Lee, that they needed to get the Association re-registered within a short period of time.

President (hereinafter referred to as Pres) Anya Davis, the Vice President (hereinafter referred to as VP) Jeannine Reetz and the Chairman of Committees (hereinafter referred to as Chair) Dr. Lee decided they needed to go forward and re-register the organization with the Department of Development Services. The VP and Chair had tried numerous times during the past year to contact Ms. Loretta Olsen and Mr. John Osten, both Senior Planners in Development Services, for the requirements for re-registering the organization.

The calls to Ms. Olsen only went to voicemail each time and were never returned. It turned out she was on maternity leave but no one had forwarded, changed or reassigned her City of San Antonio (hereinafter referred to as the City) phone number. Both the VP and Chair called the number listed with the City for Mr. Osten but that was also an incorrect number. The Chair finally reached the appropriate office and was provided with the proper procedure for the re-registration.

The Board has temporarily postponed elections until January. The decision was based on the lack of an election committee.

Safety & Security

The neighborhood is still being seriously impacted by the homeless. There appears to have been an increase in criminal activity including disturbances in the neighborhood. Most of the problems appear to be related to the homes that are owned by absentee owners who are renting the residences to criminals.

We have also been asked to contact each absentee owner and arrange meetings with our representative from SAPD. We have also been asked to call in all code compliance issues relating to the absentee owner properties until such time as the properties have been brought into compliance.

In the meantime we are working with Councilman Diego Bernal's office, Development Services and Code Compliance to have cooperation with the owner occupied homes with families who are good neighbors and working hard to rehabilitate their homes.

There have been a significant number of complaints about habitual horn blowing taking place at the properties of the absentee owners.

Another concern brought to the attention of the Safety & Security Committee is the speeding through the neighborhood and/or excessive repeat traffic.

The Safety & Security Committee will be working to resolve these nuisances.
