Stop Signs

Phone Number

Bill-

Could you email me with Mark's number. I can't find the last newsletter with the phone directory. I will call Mark and get the scoop on what's going on. I did call the city yesterday, they are going to do a traffic study (put on of those little counters out here at the intersection to determine the speed of cars). When the study is done, they will install ''STOP AHEAD'' signs in both the north and south direction. I'm not sure that this is a true solution but anything at this point is better than nothing. The city did mention all kinds of things that could be done but it is something that will have to go through the assoication (just like you mentioned). Wouldn't it be nice if the people that drove through Kenwood for the most part, were actual residents? Instead of short-cutters in a mad hurry? Thanks again for all your tips!!

odd signage

I don't live in your neighborhood, but I have been driving through it in search of a home in the area. One thing my stepfather and I commented on is the stop signs. There is no pattern. On some streets the signs go north and south and on others east to west. Some people may assume (unfortunately) that once they pass through a couple of streets without stop signs that the rest of the streets don't have them. Usually, in a neighborhood stop signs tend to follow one direction. In the Kenwood area it would make sense that your stop signs would only be on Avenues since some of the streets are large (unless it is a 4 way). Speeding is another story though. No excuses for that (or running stop signs for that matter, it's just a matter of paying closer attention).
Regriding

Historic Kenwood had streets as you mentioned. If all the stop signs are on the ''Avenues'', then there is nothing to stop a driver on the ''streets''. We found that people were using these streets to cut through because there was nothing to stop them. If you have to stop(or at least slow down, hopefully) every two blocks, then the speeds will decrease and less will find it worthwhile to cut through. We requested that the city regrid the neighborhood so that you can only go two blocks in any one direction without hitting a stop sign. Feedback from neighbors at the meetings has told us that this has had some success.
