Yesterday I went to the Wrice Drug March training, as did our H. Kenwood Prez, Sandy Ewing, and board member Paula Silli (pardon me if I put an extra ''l'' in there, Paula, I'm not sure how many you have!). It was great to see Historic Kenwood represented there and that our neighborhood association president turned out, which Councilmember Earnest Williams commented upon and appreciated as well. It would be really awesome, ya'll, if even good neighbors from all over the city were to turn out tonight for the final night of training AND A MARCH. I want to say this:
Historic Kenwood is an example of a neighborhood where the Wrice process WORKED. After years of the drug marches, we DID get the drugs out of our neighborhood. Are we now a drug-free utopia? No, we aren't perfect, but we really did get the vast majority of drug dealers out of our neighborhood. We didn't do this alone. Marchers from other neighborhoods regularly marched with us, week in and week out. Now it is our turn to step up and help them. As Councilmember Williams said last night, we need to come together as a city and see this as a citywide problem. Wherever it is, we will be there. It could be Snell Isle, it could be south St. Pete, could be north St. Pete, we have to stick together. It is time for us to help our neighbors tonight. I am personally really hoping to see more faces from Kenwood and all over St. Pete there tonight. We who have benefitted so much from this process need to turn around and help our neighbors realize the same results now. Come on, ya'll: 6:00 p.m., Tuesday (TONIGHT!), Enoch Davis Center (1111 18th Avenue South). Be there or be square. What time is it? DRUG FIGHTING TIME!
