airport history

I don't know much except watching the Council meetings ever since they put them on tv.
The history seems to be corporate and city staff support for the airport
becuase it helps executives get in & out fast. Any time opposition is brought up, a lady named Ruth Varns (I think that is the right last name) gets up and speaks in favor of the airport and how it important it is to the city and how it has a great hisory and all that kind of thing. She has had some volunteer position as head of something which supports the airport.

The opposition to the airport is always about noise, danger, bad use of waterfront property and things like that. The arguments also include the easy access from Clearwater/St.Pete airport which is so close. But this Ruth lady just won't give it up. Also there is some kind of lease between the City and the airport authority or FAA or something. But they keep renewing it.
This Ruth Varns (as I remember the name) is the real outspoken advocate for
keeping the airport.
see St. Pete Times

Last week the St. Pete Times has an article about activites at the ariport for the Festival of States. It inlcuded a lot of info on the airport and its history.
