NDR Says No To CVS Rezoning

Posted in: Historic Old Northeast
On June 7, 2000, the Neighborhood Design Review Committee of the North Shore Neighborhood Association voted against the CVS project by recommending to the entire neighborhood that it oppose the St. Petersburg Planning Commission's recommendation of rezoning for the CVS project. The vote was an overwhelming 19 to 3. The meeting was chaired by NSNA NDR Committee's new chair Lane Lastinger, a former president of NSNA. The Committee made its recommendation after meeting with CVS/Pharmacy and MetroGroup representatives and attorneys once a week for three weeks and reviewing various site plans, as well as a preliminary traffic study.

A special meeting of members, residents and property owners, which was called by petition of at least 10% of the membership, will be held Tuesday June 13, 2000, at 6:30p.m. at the Sunshine Center, 330 5th Street North, St. Petersburg, Florida.

The City Council public hearing will be held Thursday June 15, 2000, at 6:00p.m. at City Hall, 175 5th Street North, at which time the Council will decide whether or not to rezone.

NDR VOTES NO TO CVS...

The NSNA membership turn-out at the NDR meetings and the vote last evening are excellent examples of neighborhood activism at its best! But, we're not finished yet--attend the NSNA Special Meeting as reported by Jim and then the Council Meeting. In addition, if you want to support our Board to do its best work on our behalf, attend the June 12 Board meeting at 1100 Beach Dr. N. in the Condo. Meeting Room at 6:00 p.m. Be aware that there are 3 vacant board positions. Thanks to all those who gathered and disseminated information that increased resident awareness of the issues, to those who walked petitions from house to house, and to NSNA board members who have been clear about their responsibilities to the membership.
