Development of Neighborhood Walking Tours--there will be a meeting Mon., July 23, 7:00 p.m., Municipal Services Bldg. at 400 Central Avenue with Bob Jeffrey. The City is offering support to neighborhoods who want to develop walking tours. The Historic Preservation Committee has a goal to develop walking/driving tours of the Old Northeast in time for the Fl. State Historic Preservation Conference next May in St. Pete. Join us at the meeting or e-mail Susan if you'd like to participate in developing the tours and brochures.
The Planning Committee will meet Tuesday, July 24, 7:00 p.m. at the Sunshine Center to work on the pictoral survey of the neighborhood.
The Historic Preservation Committee, which is developing into a coalition of neighborhoods on historic preservation meets Thursday, July 26, 7:00 p.m at the Palladium.
The Cultural Affairs Dept. of the City has invited the NSNA to participate in the process to choose the works of art for the restored Sunken Gardens building. I was asked to sit as a voting representative, but others can participate in the process but not vote--please contact me if you'd like to participate. Meetings will begin in Sept. and run for 4 to 12 months. Phase 2 will deal with choosing some art for display in the gardens.
At the July 16 Membership Meeting, Chris Eaton was elected President Elect. Congratulations, Chris!
At the July 16 meeting, the Traffic Committees proposed CVS traffic calming/deterring plan received an almost unanimous vote of approval to take to City Traffic and Transportation. There was one dissenting vote. The proposed plan calls for reverting 8th and 9th Avenues back to two-way streets with parking like all other neighborhood avenues as well as for some stop signs on 8th and 9th.
The Candlelight Tour of Homes Committee will meet on Aug. 1 at 7:00 p.m. at 156 9th Ave. N. Lots of fun to be had planning this event!! Join us!
