Cynthia, thank you for working to make our neighborhood a more pleasent place as well doing things to help raise our property values.
Please note that the single most important item you can do to beautify our neighborhood is strict enforcement of the NDR guidelines.
If these guidelines are not followed, a person could build or renovate a home in a way that is not in keeping with our neighborhood. When that happens, we are stuck with the home for in all practicallity, as long as we will be alive.
The historic nature of our neighborhood is what make our neighborhood ''Old NE'' and what has given us the values that we have.
Every time someone builds, or renovates a home that does not meet NDR, our neighborhood loses a little more of its charm and thus, its value. Please understand that I am not saying that homes that do not meet NDR are unattractive. I am saying that those homes do not belong in Old NE.
The bottom line is, since 80% of our neighborhood is made up of homes, and over a million dollars is spent every year renovating / maintaining the homes. We as an association / beautification committee / NDR committee can make the most lasting difference by making sure the dollars that are spent on the exterior of structures, is done with NDR in mind.
There are many items that NDR does not control. But there are many that it does. For example, a brick colonial home could not have a ''key west'' style tin roof installed on it; on most blocks we are not allowed to have a driveway or garage that faces the road; we can not build a home with one side brick and the other three side with siding; etc.
