Blurred Vision

Posted in: Historic Old Northeast
Ok so NS wants to get all involved in the Baptist Church thing and now rumors are abounding that NS is going to oppose some downtown condos too. The condos are replacing a non-historic dump that was torn down. So, I am curious about what the purpose of NS is. As a dues paying member of longstanding, I would like to see the energies of NS focused on all the problems in NS. We have car thefts, prostitutes, burglaries, code violations in every block, crack heads taking over the SW corner of NS. The City wants to build an Olympic diving venue at North Shore Park. 4th Street development is still a threat. Nothing is being done about CVS traffic or the Beach Drive speedway or the incoming volumes of traffic from Baywalk. But we are paying dues and supporting efforts concerning downtown historic preservation? Something is very wrong here. FOCUS on NS, as you were elected to do.
Get Involved!

Wow! A whopp'in $15.00/year in dues!
Stop complaining and get involved!
If more residents got involved we'd have less of the problems you outlined!
You avoided his question

The person has a point. What is North Shore doing fooling around with things outside its boundry? Answer the question. Don't just yell at the person and blow them off.

Why is North Shore doing taking on issues that clearly fall into other business or neighborhood associations turf? Why? Answer the question.

By Been there done that.
Re-think this

I too felt the same way at first--not our neighborhood & who are we to dictate what somebody else sees as a fine style. After all, the art deco buildings that we now fight to save were once considered ''too modern''.But the bigger point is that once something gets going close to our historic neighborhood, it becomes easier to have another developer ask for a design variance in our neighborhood and harder to stop them. The city doesn't automatically respect neighborhood boundaries and the whole city and where it's going is everybodys responsibility. It may seem fine to have a five story building in ''downtown'' but right now, there's nothing to stop them from building one on any of our streets/avenues unless we challenge them at the start. Yes, I'm certain that it's a distraction for our leadership who would prefer to not have to deal with it, but thankfully, they're not ignoring the issue either.
