We have a water shortage in Hillsborough/Pinellas/Pasco and grass takes a lot of water to stay green. It also requires weekly mowing, fertilizer, and pesticides which soak down into the aquifer polluting it, and runoff as stormwater polluting the lakes and rivers. I choose not to have grass, but am planting flowers and bushes in front and vegetables in back of my home. Makes sense to me - I don't care for the noise pollution/cost of lawn mowing either. What do you think?
