The next CTC meeting for the Seminole Heights/ Sulfur Springs area will be on Monday, January 10th at 3 PM. We will meet at the Centre for Girls- 105 W. Sligh.

The risk factors we have chosen to work on for Seminole Heights/ Sulfur Springs based on student surveys are: Poor family supervision/ Poor family discipline and Friends' delinquent behavior/ Friends' use of drugs.

The plan is to gather information about the prevention programs and resources currently available in Seminole Heights/ Sulfur Springs neighborhoods that address the risk factors we selected. We will also identify gaps and problems with currently offered programs and resources.

We plan to design a resource pamphlet for parents. We could create a CTC resource web site- or develop a CTC web page on an existing web site.

Eventually the group will recommend improvements to existing programs and implement new research based programs.

Here is a link to a local parenting education web site- it is called Family Involvement in Education, and is a USF program. http://www.floridapartnership.usf.edu/

I attached CTC forms to help collect resource information. Filling these forms out will be time consuming, so we will try to get volunteers to help. Irene Matthews suggests getting college students to help with this project. We may get USF students to help us with gathering and compiling information, and designing the resource booklet.

Please bring any pamphlets which describe the local resources you have identified to the meeting on Jan 10th. We will compile these into a notebook.

If you can't attend the Jan 10th meeting, you can e-mail me any resource information you want to share.

The next CTC Training with Sherry Wong will be on Thursday January 27th at ACTS at 4612 N 56th Street, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. You will get an invitation.

After this training, Irene Matthews would like us to develop a CTC timeline that she can present to the South East Seminole Heights neighborhood group.

If you have any questions, please email Irene Matthews at matthews1313@yahoo.com.

See you on Monday,
Ellen Snelling
