September 29, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 PM @ Judith Saunders?’ House

Attending:Robert Wittry (Meeting Facilitator), Judith Saunders, Margaret Baxter, Tony Koch, Lori Musicant, Marc Ellis, Lucille Pryor, & Jean Williams

I.                    Old Business

A.     Traffic Problems. The Penn Street traffic continues to be the No1 concern. We need to obtain all new signatures from tenants, a school district representative, church officials and apartment building owners. We need a team to do this that includes a Spanish speaking member.

B. Washington School.

A new gate has been installed, so people can?’t get into the school yard on Penn unless the gate is unlocked. The entrance was supposed to have been moved to Raymond, but the Y construction has delayed this.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

C.    Street Lighting.

Robert reported that over 60 street lights are out. He is reporting these lights via email. The contact person for street lighting repair/maintenance is Andy Torres. His telephone # is 744-4383 X 4158 and his email address is atorres@cityofpasadena.net. It is more effective to use email than telephoning.

D.    Update on Garfield:

Things are going well on Garfield.

II.                 New Business

A.    Minutes and Treasurer?’s Report.? ? ?

ii)       Minutes of Sept. 29, 2003 meeting approved

B.     Vacant Lot @ Los Robles/Flower.

Family has begun explorations into gaining permission and funding to build a halfway house for parolees. Need to try to stay aware of progress of these efforts, but this will be difficult as we do not know the name of their partners in pursuing this.

C.    Liaison Report by Robert of City Activities.

Most of Robert?’s efforts have bee directed toward the General Plan/Central District that the City Council is moving forward and discussing. He has identified errors and discrepancies in the General Plan, and has tried to suggest alternative approaches to consider, particularly as they impact the general environment of Pasadena. Also, we talked about the evolving plans being submitted for the Rose Bowl to try to bring a NFL team to Pasadena. Past concerns have included pros and cons for support for a Box Store (such as Home Depot, Walmart, etc.) to Northwest Pasadena. The state legislature has passed a bill that would facilitate building granny flats on single residence lots (Note: the Governor has since vetoed this bill). Robert hasn?’t been able to attend many of the Neighborhood Coalition meetings recently.

D.    Flowers of Marengo Web Site

No one has updated the web site for a long time. Robert was the only person doing this and he has become too busy with other activities. Lori Musicant has agreed to check out the site to see if this is something she can do. Judith will email minutes to Lori for posting on the web site.

E.     Representative to Police Advisory Board Meetings

Tony Koch has agreed to represent Flowers of Marengo at the Police Advisory Board Meetings. The meetings have recently been switched to Thursday evenings, and may be the second Thursday of each month. The contact person is Joy at (626) 744-6056.
