Summer Chore Checklist

Jun 20, 2001

It's here, hot and sweaty weather, gardens take on a life of their own and outdoor activities beckon your call, but summer chores are still here.

Pest Control - Several of our homes have had problems with termites and carpenter ants. If you have not had your home inspected recently, I would highly suggest your doing so. If you see telltale mounds, they can be treated with grits or borax, but keep it away from children. Yes, I said grits, this is the South isn't it.

Garbage Cans - Control garbage can odor with a can clean-out. Rinse garbage cans with a hose, dump the water, then spray with disinfectant. Let the cans sit for 10 minutes, then rinse again. Turn can upside down to dry.

Inspect gutters, and clean out any leafy debris. Summer thunderstorms won't faze you if your gutters are in good working order.

Late summer is a slow time for home maintenance and cleaning companies, you should be able to get some great discounts on carpet cleaners, gutter installers, and window washing firms.
