Spring Clean up

Mar 04, 2002

SPRING CLEANUP TIME

It?s time to clean out the garage, trim the trees, haul the junk out of the attic, and get ready for a neighborhood clean up.

Saturday April 27, 2002, time: 7:00 am to 2:30 pm., location: 11th street at 89th Avenue. This is the Coop Park site in North Garrison Heights Neighborhood.

The Forest Ridge Association requested a joint cleanup with North Garrison this year. So we need to get some volunteers from our neighborhood to help them out.

We will have drop boxes for both yard debris and bulky items. Please keep your yard debris separated from the bulky items as they go into different drop boxes.

This is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved in a neighborhood activity, as several kinds of help is needed. Two types of active volunteers are needed.

1. Volunteers to identify types of material and direct traffic. This is pretty light duty, but very important to keep the traffic flowing smoothly.

2. Volunteers to help unload and possibly go to homes where people need help loading and/or hauling. Unloading is heavy, dirty work. Bring gloves and wear your grubbies.

There are 4 two-hour shifts:
7:am to 9:am
9:am to 11:am
11:am to 1:pm
1:pm to close

It?s helpful to have an extra pickup and driver available for folks who don?t have a way to haul their items. This has always been a needed and much appreciated service.

Please call to volunteer your pick up and/or yourself. 360-883-5569

For those who want to participate as support services, coffee, cookies, soft drinks, and water are always appreciated. Somehow this always turns out to be a fun social event so we hope everyone will participate to the degree that they?re able.

There are rules. Some are city rules and must be followed. Some are common courtesy to our volunteers. Please don?t expect the volunteers to do all of the unloading, they are there to help and it?s hard work.

Non-working major appliances will be picked up free during the months of April and May. Call 696-8186 IN MARCH to schedule your major appliance pick up.

We can?t take tires. There are tire disposal coupons for that.

We can?t take paint containers, solvents, or other hazardous household waste. Call 737-1727 or 256-8482 to find out how to dispose of hazardous items.

We can?t take sod. We can?t take household garbage and will not take bags with grass clippings.

Thank you for all your help , and hope to see you there. Stan Jensen
