Taking the lead in emasculating this eyesore of a place (our own City Heights Post Office) and providing a much needed improvement to greater City Heights was PRICE CHARITIES and The CITY HEIGHTS BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION (BIA). With a steady streams of volunteers, they went crazy painting-out the grime and blight that once covered the Post Office building.
Leading the all-volunteer painting crew, LOIS MILLER, of Price Charities, explained how one day, she was driving by and just could NOT believe her eyes when seen the conditions of this very visible place.
With determination, she convinced everyone involved that painting the building would be a great idea and an ideal gift to the residents of City Heights.
Choosing to honor Dr. MARTIN LUTHER KING, Jr., and also fulfill her own dream, from Saturday to Monday, January 19-21, 2002, Lois had seen her dream come through, after lots of work.
In helping fulfill Lois' dream ESTUDIO E provided the theme (patriotic) and color scheme (red, white and blue); FRAZEE (El Cajon & 33rd) donated the paint and T-shirts for the volunteers; CHRISTMAS IN APRIL donated the use of their painting tools and equipment; HOWTHORNE donated the use of the mechanical lift and the crew to operate it; ALBERTSON'S (at the Urban Village)water and MARK KASSAB of MURPHY'S MARKET, sodas and lunch.
Now we have a LANDMARK at the place in which one day there was an eyesore. Much we have to be greatful to a dreamer and doer who changed our world by changing a blighted corner in City Heights.
