PEER HELPERS

THE CRAWFORD HIGH SCHOOL PEER HELPERS

By Lisa Barr -- Crawford High School Peer Helpers, part of the Community Youth Development Project, are a group of concerned students who want to make a difference in their community. The Community Youth Development program is a project with the YMCA Youth and Family Services Teen Link Community Project. The Peer Helper’s mission statement is “STUDENTS STRIVING FOR A BETTER SOCIETY.” It enables and empowers students to take proactive steps to make change on behalf of youth in their communities. This year alone, the students have adopt and completed an angel holiday gift campaign, a food drive, a blanket donation for the homeless population, and have gone classroom to classroom to educate their peers on suicide prevention and STD's. They are currently working on constructing an assembly for 400 students to educate them on teen health issues (Domestic Violence, STD's, & Substance Abuse). They are a great group of 38 energized and passionate students wanting to make change. And Change they will make when they will be available to help us put a clean face on Euclid Avenue. With the enthusiastic leadership and availability of teens like the PEER HELPERS, we can do no less than to come out and clean our entire community on March 19th.
