At the January meeting David B. Carter, of DNREC's Delaware Coastal Programs, will present a proposed plan for the community's open space.
If the plan is approved by the community, the first phase will begin with the 14 acre parcel in the southwest corner of the subdivision. The plan outlines specific actions that includes management of a) 6.18 acres as either fallow meadows or warm season grasses, b) management of 1.08 acres of open space adjacent to private residences as a meadow with some shrubs, c) reforesting 6.67 acres on the outer edge of the open space, d) providing for approximately 1 mile of nature trails, and e) installation of bird nesting boxes.
The cost of this project is comparable to the annual mowing costs. State Representative Bethany Hall-Long and Mr. Carter assisted us in obtaining and completing the necessary forms to obtain a grant to help defray the costs.
