SPRING 2006 FOXBORO VILLAGE CIVIC ASSOCIATION NEWS

Apr 29, 2006

March 2006

I hope this newsletter finds all of you happy & healthy. Maybe spring is on the way & we can get out & start seeing one another again! As you read through this newsletter, as I hope you will, I hope you?’ll take a minute and think about what your neighborhood means to you. Is it just a place to live? Just a place to go to and from? Or, is it a place that you call your home, a place you look forward to coming to and glad that this is where your home is? Whether you?’re here for just a short time or here for decades, I think there are lots of us that would love for Foxboro to be a place that has a feeling of ?“home?”. A place that still gets together once in a while, where the kids in the neighborhood get to be kids, make new friends and always remember the fun they had while they lived here. But, the only way that happens is with you. As you read the facts, news & other items below, give some thought to our community of homes. We all could use a little more community!

Cathy Tiffany
Your ever-hopeful President

Block Party, Garage Sale, Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Parade, Garden Swap, Santas, etc?…all still need volunteers! Next year, we are short 3 santas! The Sawickis (Tim) & Srsics (John) have done it for YEARS & are retiring! So, to Tim & John?…
THANK YOU SO MUCH for your time & effort in making Christmas special for all the little ones!!!
You are great examples of community leaders!
So, to the rest of us, if you would like the kids to continue to get a visit from Santa & have luminaries?…we need some volunteers! We need 3 more men to play Santa this year, or we won?’t have enough to do the visits. Gary Tiffany stepped up last year & pitched in?…but to efficiently cover Foxboro, we need 3 more fellas!! Elves, too (middle school or Jr. high)!! It?’s only one weekend a year!!!
Call 792-9944 if you would like to pitch in! Call now; don?’t wait! 

THE BAD NEWS

Can you even believe that?’s the title? Not even trying to disguise it! Let?’s cut to the chase: we have a measly 30% participation in our neighborhood association. The horror! The problem is that 30% is paying for what should/does benefit all. That stinks. The other problem is that it would appear that 70% does not care, or is uninformed. That stinks, too. At $20/year, this is the cheapest, er, best value, around. Without stronger participation, we cannot have Easter Egg hunts, block parties, no more snow removal (if it actually snowed a lot ), no landscaping, Santa visits, neighborhood garage sales, sign decorations or any other cool things that we wanted to do for this community of ours! AAAAAhhhhh! Don?’t let it happen! So, if you have not paid your $20 dues, expect a pleasantly pleading visit from your street captain or a temporary substitute. We need the participation of over 50% of the village to keep going!
Read on for upcoming dates to participate in our next (hopefully not last) Foxy Easter Egg Hunt, our Street Captain Pow Wow and Foxboro Community Event. How big a blow out that will be will depend on?….you guessed it?…YOU!

THE GOOD NEWS

Together we can fix it!! Remember the old saying, ?“If it ain?’t broke, don?’t fix it??” Well, this isn?’t it. It is broke & we do need to fix it! Wadda ya say? Check out these dates:
 April 7: Friday 6:30 Street Captain Pow Wow. Anyone welcome! Kids, too! Should take an hour or two (?) of thoughts, finding out the scoop for upcoming plans?…or make suggestions! We would love to have your input! Drinks and treats for you if you come! 
 April 9: Foxy Easter Egg Hunt! Nicole Kramer, 4:00. 7597 Silver Fox Dr. A visit from the Easter Bunny and a small party afterwards should make for a great time! PLEASE call to let us know you?’re coming?…it?’s much easier to plan for the event! 579-9288
♣ June 18: Foxboro Community Event! The Big Bash! If we have the money! 

These are the dates you need to know! Please make every effort to attend! Please, please, please! (Imagine a cute little face in front of you now)

THE COOL NEW THING!

What?’s the Fox Trot? Not a crazy dance, but a wonderful community ?“thing?” that puts the fun & surprise back in the ?‘burbs! It?’s like a nice surprising game of ?“Tag, you?’re it!?” The newest addition to our community leading the Trot is ?“Roxy?”. She is a stuffed fox (like a toy?…not a real animal, that would just be creepy!) that likes to make housecalls! She?’s our totally modern neighborhood mascot & she wants to make your day!
Here?’s the deal:
You?’ll hear a knock @ your door & Roxy will be @ your door, waiting to wish you lots of neighborly happiness! Within 3 days, you need to pick someone else to drop Roxy off to! Feel free to add a few cookies, candies or whatever you feel like...maybe just a happy note! This has been lots of fun in other neighborhoods; we hope it will be here as well! Kids especially really look forward to seeing if it?’s their turn to get a visit from Roxy!
Please treat this community gem with care (i.e: don?’t let your kids play with her in the sandbox, take off & scatter her clothing, bathe with her, etc).
I think this will be fun?…you?’ll just be able to feeeeel the love & joy spread around. Call Cathy Tiffany @ 792-9944 if you have any ideas for Roxy!

The Money Thing

As a neighborhood association, we need to make all aware of our financial situation. So here goes:
?• $1200 or so was collected for dues. As stated earlier, this was about 30% participation; lack of participation has lessened our harvest by about $2000!
$1000 was paid for snow removal. It sounds like a lot, but it was a great deal & was for unlimited removal above 4?”. We had 2 removals, which would have been at least $600/700 anyway. Mother Nature didn?’t cooperate this year?…or did she?
?• We currently have around $500 in our account. If everyone else paid their dues, we could have around $2000! Without the rest of the village paying their 2005 dues, we will not be able to sustain our association. Please, remit your $20; the 2006 dues aren?’t due until October. If someone doesn?’t come around soon, call the # for your street captain, or mail your check to 7677 Old Foxe Ct, Columbus, Ohio 43235 (the Tiffanys). Please do so by April 1. We thank you in advance!
?• Some future ideas that our $ could go towards: Jazz up the pond area, a sign for the Hard Rd. side of our village, community events specifically for our neighborhood kids and a really fun Santa thing!! Your ideas are welcome, too!

The Scary Thing
Chapman Elementary just sent a notice home about an incident that occurred Thursday, March 16. Two students were searching for a missing dog in the area of Sawbury Blvd when a male in a dark blue pickup truck stopped them. The truck is reportedly in poor condition and the rear window was covered by a large decal. The driver is reported to be between 18-20 years of age with sandy blonde hair. After the driver asked the two students to come near the truck, they ran & he started his truck and appeared to follow them. The students reported that they had never seen this pickup in the neighborhood before.
The families involved reported this incident to the police. PLEASE review the ?“stranger?” talk with your kids and be a watchdog around you! If you have seen suspicious people, cars or behavior, there?’s no crime in calling your suspicions in. Let?’s keep on eye on our neighborhood for the safety of our kids & all who live here!
The Craft Thing
Denise Isles has brought back an old favorite?…ladies craft night! At the last event, those fun folks made wine charms?…hmmm?…I wonder what they had to drink?  At any rate, a great time was had by all! The next one is due in a month or so. If you want to attend, so far they have been on a Tuesday Eve, give Denise a call & let her know! Denise 793-1858

The Future Thing
Think:
Do I want to advertise my services for $10 in the directory (we really are getting one together!!). It shall be done by the end of Spring!!
Call 792-9944 if you do!

Do I need to get rid of my earthly treasures in a community yard sale? It should be around July. Start cleanin?’!

Do I need to lavish our new president with gifts? (Was that too over the top? O.K?…Just join?…that will be enough)

The End Thing
In closing?…have a super week & let the spirit of community fill your little bodies and spring you into action! This is a great neighborhood with lots of great people in it. It?’s fun to have things that we still do as a community, even if we don?’t all hang out socially. Young, old, kids, no kids?…who cares?? We can still have fun & make our community stand out! There are lots of things in the works?…if you?’re interested! Gift certificates from area restaurants/businesses for new moms, new move-ins. The Garden Swap?…why pay for new perennials when we can trade??? Community events for our kids & maybe some adult stuff, too! Wine tastings, craft nights, maybe even a pet parade this summer! What a hoot that would be!! Let?’s get together & make it happen!!
Have a stupendous week you crazy kids!!
