CLEAN UP
There just aren't enough hours...
Some of you may have seen an inspiring story last month on television about kids in Franklinton doing a community clean up. This month they are planning another outing in April and they are widening their scope.
The goal is to pick up trash on W. Broad Street beginning in Franklinton at Starling and coming all the way west to Wilson Road. They are looking for partners and they are looking to the Hilltop!
LeaderSpark is the organization that brought the Franklinton youth together and Rebecca Hunley is the Franklinton resident that came to the GHAC in March to solicit our community participation. It was really amazing to see these teens in Franklinton doing something so positive AND being recognized for the work. Too often it is too easy to assume the worst about our young people and I am happy to publicly commend them for breaking through the stereotype!
This is a tremendous opportunity to send several messages to city hall and all of central Ohio. WE CARE ABOUT OUR COMMUNITIES, OUR KIDS CARE ABOUT THEIR COMMUNITIES and WE COME TOGETHER AS RESIDENTS OF ONE WESTSIDE FAMILY TO IMPROVE OUR COMMUNITIES!
As the May primary approaches, it's not out of the question that we might see some political folks on the scene to assist in the clean-up as well as our neighbors, volunteers from other parts of the city, etc. Where politicians and big crowds go, media follows (hint hint media friends!) so this is a great opportunity to spread some positive news and do a wonderful service to our community.
If you as an individual or if your group, church, civic organization, quilting club or WHATEVER would like to
pitch in to begin spring 2010 with a trash-free W. Broad St. in our community(ies), please reply to this email
ASAP and preferably by 3/22/10 using the subject line: CLEAN UP. I will make sure you are kept in the loop as plans solidify. Please identify yourself, your organization and the number of volunteers you'll be bringing to the party.
Have a great week and enjoy the added evening sun!
