Hi RachyRach. I'm new to this forum but saw this thread and wanted to say that you are not alone. There is a group in Franklinton who are concerned and we are working to make change. The Franklinton Homwowners Association has taken new leadership and some new members to grow the group. We are looking for additional members to come as we create a new program of activities aimed at increasing the presence of homeownership and good renters in our community. While many of the old guard have left, there is a group of motivated newcomers who are moving ahead!
Not sure if you heard but our local community garden, Franklinton Gardens, which started just three years ago, reorganized last fall and won the Columbus 2010 Community Garden of the Year award.
Here is our site - its still in progress but check it out: http://www.franklinton.110mb.com/
Feel free to email me and I would be happy to share more.

I have seen homes turned into vacant houses, drug houses, and/or people that don't care about themselves and the area they live in. In the bottoms, you can tell if a property is owned or rented, drug or family homes, or even homes that are owned by private home owners/landlord, even " a city employee" (ie slum lord). Many properties in Franklinton have fallen to uncaring people. It's sad to see a historical area that has been degraded because of circumstances and "uneducated or ghetto billies". The city has begun a program that is "supposed" to clean areas of Franklinton up and I have seen progress. but I think some of the people (I call them "ghetto billies" simply because they are simple minded, uneducated THUGS who's parents never taught them the value of anything) in the bottoms really could care less about their area. Not all of the bottoms residents are like this - however many of the newer generations are. It's sad. I have also met many people from other sides of town who have moved here simply because they can not sell drugs on their side of town. I know many GOOD people along with many "bad". I don't try to cause problems but there are issues with "gangs" if you can call them that. I do care - this is my home... |
