10-22-2012: Town Hall w/ Sen. Bethany Hall Long

Parents, students invited to town hall with local legislators Oct. 22
MIDDLETOWN – Sen. Bethany Hall Long (D-Middletown) will join Rep. Rebecca Walker (D-Townsend) in hosting a town hall for Appoquinimink School District parents and students Monday, Oct. 22, to bring parents and students together with local legislators and the Attorney General’s Office to discuss topics and legislation that impact children in school.
“The intent of this event is to bring students and parents up to date with those critical pieces of legislation that impact our students and the school setting,” Walker said. “Our goal is to keep our students and families informed about new laws and to hear new ideas.”
Topics of discussion will include texting, social media and other communication between students, bullying and schools’ reporting requirements, and a new law regarding recognition and management of concussions, among other issues. The town hall is designed to discuss aspects of students’ school days other than curriculum.
The forum will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Middletown High School auditorium, 120 Silver Lake Road, Middletown. While the discussion will be geared toward middle and high school students, parents and students of all ages are invited to attend.
Other legislators and officials who will take part in the town hall include Reps. Quinn Johnson (D-Middletown) and Earl Jaques (D-Glasgow), Sen. Bruce Ennis (D-Smyrna), and officials from the Attorney General’s Office.
