Fulton NRP Implementation
Topic Area Updates  January 13, 1998

Steering Committee Projects
FNA Program Fund (formerly called FNA Grant Fund)?– The Implementation Committee will be distributing applications and advertising for the program in the next month. After we receive applications, we will be making funding decisions and determining the most appropriate contract manager for each applicant. We will then write the scopes of service appropriate for each project. The projected timeline for this will be to have applications due back April 1. We plan to have the scopes of service ready for FNA approval at the May or June 1999 meeting.

Boundary Signs ?– Boundary signs will be presented at the February Implementation Committee meeting for sign design and location approval.

Safety Programs ?– Guidelines for the safety workshop project were approved at the Implementation Committee. The Safety Committee will begin implementing home security workshops through CCP/SAFE in the neighborhood with motion detector rebates offered through a drawing.

School Facilities
Fulton Campus Redevelopment Project ?– Proposals from design firms will be received mid-January. The design firm selection committee will meet on January 21 to select a firm. The Campus Committee will meet with the selected firm on January 28 to begin designing plans.

Information
Information & Welcome Packets ?– Michelle Mougin and volunteers will begin developing the information and welcome packets. They will be calling organizations that will be giving information and/or flyers for the packets. They will also begin recruiting businesses to contribute flyers or coupons. We have block contacts (who will be distributing the packets) on about one-quarter of the blocks.

FNN Expansion ?– Letters were mailed to past advertisers to discontinue advertising in the newsletter. It was suggested that advertisers could utilize the information and welcome packets. Contributers are being contacted to set up the regular columns for the publication. The first edition of the newsletter in the new format will be out the first week of March.

Parks
Park Improvements ?– Over 90 surveys have been received from neighborhood residents. Results have been tallied and were presented at the Implementation Committee meeting. The committee approved Terry Kita?’s suggested prioritization based on survey results. He will be implemented the playground and lighting projects at Pershing Park as first priorities. The first priority for Minnehaha Creek will be erosion control. The suggested footbridge strategy in the Action Plan will be placed as a last priority project due to lack of support through the survey.

Housing & City Services
Home Improvement Loan Program ?– The guidelines and scope of service for this project were approved at the Implementation Committee and will be presented to FNA for approval at the January meeting. Advertising will begin February 1 and an informational meeting will be scheduled for mid-February. The loans will be available for this spring?’s building season.

Streets
50th Street Project ?– The streets volunteer plans to begin making arrangements for a neighborhood meeting to present the 50th Street plan. There may also be a meeting scheduled with Steve Minn prior to the neighborhood meeting.

Education
Education Committee ?– There will be a meeting at the end of January to continue planning. Carrie Rogers plans to begin contacting the Site Councils and PTAs to get them involved and to begin recruiting volunteers to work in the schools.

Environment
Environment Committee ?– The committee will be meeting in January.

Milfoil Harvester ?– The scope of service for this project was approved at the Implementation Committee meeting. It will be on the consent agenda for approval at the Jan 13 FNA meeting.
