Gaffney Lane elem. school Upgrades

At the January 18th meeting, Ron Stewart from the School District was our guest speaker and explained
the changes coming to Gaffney Lane Elementary. These improvements are a result of Bond monies.
The most noticeable improvement will be the addition of four classrooms to the north side of the building. These classrooms will provide additional space desperately needed at the school. This extra space will also add a small room and two additional restrooms. The parking lot will also see the addition of 20 new parking spaces as well as new handicap accessible parking and an accessible pathway to the building.
There will also be many less noticeable upgrades and repairs made. Upgrades are to be made to the electrical and ventilation systems. An upgrade will be made to the fire alarm system and a new security system will also be installed. A new exterior window will be added in the office so staff can see the front doors. Structurally there will be seismic upgrades and reconstruction of damaged masonry walls.
Finally, there will be half street improvements made to Gaffney Lane which would include lighting,street trees and sidewalks.
Work is scheduled to begin right after school gets out in June with a completion date of December 2001.
A representative will be at the March 15th meeting to obtain neighborhood input as part of their City land use application. To provide your input, plan on attending the meeting.
