Garden of Eden Neighborhood Association

Message from the President..........A Year in Review

Jan 01, 2007

2007 will be very challenging for us. Are you ready for the challenges? As this newsletter is being written there are Teamsters striking in our neighborhood. We must not allow this disturbance to distract us. We must stay focused in order to attain greatness.

2006 was a very good year for the Garden of Eden NA. We set numerous goals and achieved them as well as completed some unexpected projects.

Thanks to the undying volunteer spirit of our members, below is a recap of activities in 2006:

Curator for the Fort Worth Public Library Downtown ?–Black History Art Exhibit
Catered the Black History Art Exhibit Reception
Provided Computer Training Classes
Participated in the Cowtown Clean Up Campaign
Completed Home Renovation for 93 Year Old Widow
Developed landscape partnership for church grounds and roadways with local business
Fun Run/Walk Fund Raiser
Chili Cook Off Fund Raiser
NUSA Finalist
NUSA, First Place Winner?—Social Revitalization
NUSA, Grand Prize Winner?—Neighborhood of the Year
National Night Out
?“History in the Baking ?“ newspaper article promoting cookbook for 2007
Holiday Celebration and Bake Sale
Provided food baskets for 17 families during Thanksgiving and Christmas

Mr. Homer, we haven?’t forgotten you!

Mr. Homer Jones is an 81 year old widower who is blind in one eye, partially blind in the other and was recently diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer?’s. We have requested the assistance from the City of Fort Worth and other agencies, but to no avail. We were fortunate enough to receive a brand new furnace from the Tarrant County Housing Partnership during the coldest days of December. Thank God he didn?’t freeze to death. It is a sad commentary when the elderly citizens of our city cannot receive help. This is yet another struggle for one of the smallest communities in Fort Worth. However, we will prevail with the persistence that has been shown with prior projects.
2007 is the year for Mr. Homer Jones
Believe it or not, we can make a difference!

Final Touch for Miss Josie?’s House

Final touches for Miss Josie?’s house, a new handicap ramp and a new side walk!

Thanks to TXI, Inc., the local historic Valley Baptist Church and local Garden of Eden volunteers, a sidewalk is complete for 93 year old Josie Johnson, whose home was renovated in April, 2006.

This is the beginning of a new year!
Remember the words of Winston Churchill, ?“You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give."

God Bless you!
