Producing oil from Canada's tar sands emits more carbon emissions than regular oil, and piping it through the US will threaten crucial drinking and crop irrigation water sources. Hundreds of clergy have joined me in a letter to President Obama urging him to reject the pipeline.

Your gift will help us publish this letter with all the signatures as a full page ad in Politico, a widely read newspaper on Capitol Hill. Every little bit counts. We need to show the president and members of Congress that clergy from across the country are willing to stand up for Creation and oppose this dangerous project.

I've heard from friends in government that the president has not made a decision yet. So we need to keep the pressure on. The proposed Keystone pipeline is simply too risky. Our country should be developing the clean, efficient vehicles of the future, not piping toxic tar sands oil across the heartland with no benefit to Americans.

Keystone XL would endanger farmland, wildlife, drinking water, and human lives all along its 1,000 mile route -- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and for 50 years into the future if we don't stop it.
