The Orchard's West Park Development Committee has met and begun the planning of the park that is located on 54th Street and 94th Avenue.
This park is a City of Vancouver park, but it borders the City/County line, which gives the Glenwood Hills Neighborhood Association opportunity for input as to how the park will be developed.
The non-negotiable development items for this park are: removal of brush, perimeter fence, drinking fountain, trash receptacle, sinage, access to play area, play equipment, grading and seeding, and street frontage improvements.
The design decisions made by the committee so far are: Use a 5 foot perimeter fence along the street for park user protection due to traffic concerns; provide openings into the perimeter fence on the north, and two locations on the south; locate the play area in the southern glen, (shaded, best access to targeted park users, safer street); the northern area is not large enough to support a baseball backstop; the hard court should be located on the southern corner near play, exposed to visual scrutiny, but away from street lights to deter from undesirable uses after dark; three bench locations; four picnic tables.
If you have any concerns or ideas for this park, please contact Jocelyn Holland at 253-4062 or hollandjnjnj@home.com
The next design committee meeting will be on Tuesday, December 12th from 7-9pm at the home of Jocelyn and Joel Holland. Please call for directions at 253-4062.
